House Foundations

I've been building the city, and there is a problem. The height map is not even, and the Whiterun houses have no foundation. I tried making a stone foundation using ImpStoneBlocks, this looks nice, but takes forever to build.

I figured it was time to try my hands at 3D modeling, and a stone foundation should not be too hard, it's basically just a box.The first tempt is a foundation for the WRBreezeHome, and making it was not that hard. Granted the model has no finesse at all and is very blocky :)

I made a texture I think will look nice for the base (purple), the corners will be solid stones (turquoise), and then there will be smaller wood beams as support (brown).

Next task is UV mapping, and I'm really at a loss here... back to browsing tutorials for 3ds Max to see if I can figure this out.

  2. Strange how none of the houses had foundations. Bit of an oversight on Beths part. Here's a link to a lot of 3ds max videos for skyrim modding. I haven't looked through them all yet, but you should find them very helpful:

  3. UV mapping was confusing for me to learn but its easy to generate one. you need Nifskope. All you do is open your .nif of choice in Nifskope. Look in your block list then right click on "NItrishape" then hit "export template". Select the prefered size then select the location you want the file saved after generation (desktop is easiest). Open the .TGA file in your 2d application of choice (ex: Gimp or Photoshop) then begin texturing and save the file ad a .DDS (in order to generate a DDS format you need to have a plugin if you are using Gimp or Photoshop, they are easily found using google).
As far as learning to texture, I used these tutorials http://tesalliance.org/forums/index.php?/forum/118-graphic-artistry/
I learned the basics of texturing in about 4 days using those tutorials.

  4. I love the new colours of the whiterun houses, how long did it take you to make them? Are they new or did you just alter the colours?

    1. The red and black wood is new, the red is a classic swedish 'falu red'. I changed the big woodbeams to become whiter. There is still some work to be done so they look just right :)

  5. I'm having a look here once in a while and I must say that I envy you. I wish I had time (and patience) to make something like that. And it looks like you're having a lot of fun with it too. I hope to see this finished sometime in the future and I hope you'll let us enjoy roaming this world of yours. Thumbs up :)

  6. Blimey! This is nice and some really good stuff on display here! Seems like you're doing quite similar stuff to what I'm doing with my Frontier mod. I'm going to link from my blog and I'm going to play Hoddminir when you release.

Roligt att se nån annan än jag ta sig an såna här stora projekt också! Fortsätt så :)
